BRCPS 6th Grade scholars competed in this year’s STEM Design Challenge from Thermo Scientific Scientific. Starting in September, scholars conceived of, designed and built working models of cancer-fighting nanobots. Working with their teachers, the scholars learned about and incorporated engineering design principles to build their models, culminating in model presentations and a competition at Thermo Fisher world headquarters on December 11th. Congresswoman Katherine Clark, who represents Massachusetts’ 5th District in the US House of Representatives, was a special guest this year, paying a surprise visit to the students. This is the 3rd year BRCPS has partnered with Thermo Fisher, bringing STEM kits and materials to the school and working with 6th grade teachers to support hands-on STEM-based learning.
