Welcome From Our Head of School

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School.

Established in 1995 as one of Massachusetts’ first charter schools, Boston Renaissance Charter Public School has a proud legacy of serving children and families across Boston. Our mission is to nurture and develop the academic, social, and emotional capacity of every student, equipping them with the skills and confidence they need to thrive in school and in life. We are committed to offering a rigorous, well-rounded academic program paired with targeted supports to promote each child’s holistic, healthy development.

At Boston Renaissance, we strive to be more than a school. We are a place where children feel connected, encouraged, and empowered to express themselves. Our students experience a deep sense of belonging that enriches not only their education but also their lives and the lives of their families. Community is at the heart of who we are.

Our teachers and staff have built a strong professional culture grounded in shared values and unwavering dedication to our students. This “Renaissance Family” spirit is nurtured through intentional community-building, celebrations, and events that bring joy to our important daily work.

Families are also central to our community. We know that strong, collaborative partnerships between school and home are essential to student success. That is why we work closely with parents and caregivers beginning in PreK and continuing throughout each child’s journey with us.

I understand this deeply because I was a Renaissance parent before I became a staff member. When my daughter began attending in 1997, I fell in love with the school and soon became a parent volunteer. In 1999, I joined the staff, focusing on family engagement. Over time, I became the Director of Unified Student Services, overseeing all special education, English language learner programs, mental health, and health services. In 2016, I became Head of School. These experiences shaped my commitment to continuing the proud traditions of equity and community that Boston Renaissance has embodied since its founding.

Together with our Board of Trustees, we continue to invest in our staff, technology, and student support systems to ensure that every child receives a high-quality education and the care they deserve.

Boston Renaissance also proudly partners with local organizations, Boston Public Schools, and other Commonwealth charter schools. Our renowned Voices of Renaissance Chorus program, a tradition since 1999, has connected our students with the greater Boston community through performances and mentorship. We are grateful for the many individuals and partners who have supported our school over the years and warmly invite new friends to join us in this work.

I appreciate your interest and support. We encourage you to explore our website, schedule a visit, and consider making a donation to help us continue providing an excellent education for every child. Your gift will directly support our programs, our teachers, and the children we serve.

Thank you for learning more about the Renaissance community. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

With gratitude,

Mrs. Alexandra Buckmire
